History
Broadway Bares IX
Calendar Girl Directed by Jerry Mitchell
In 1999, Broadway Bares moved to its current home, the Roseland Ballroom, a huge historic dancehall located in the heart of the Broadway district in midtown Manhattan. Production elements were boldly beefed up with lights, set, sound, and a projection screen all designed specifically to fit into the space. The show was called “Calendar Girl,” with the inspiration for the ad campaign coming from the pin-up calendars of George Petty and Alberto Vargas. Opening with twelve showgirls representing the months of the year, the show gave even the most staid holidays a sexy makeover, with Lypsinka phoning in to talk about sex for Valentine’s Day, a randy leprechaun stripping off his kilt for St. Paddy’s Day, and trick-or-treats at a horny haunted house on Halloween.
